Celebrate National Intern Day with Itron Interns

July 28, 2022

Today isn’t an average Thursday… It’s National Intern Day! Created by WayUp in 2017, today is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the future leaders of our world: interns. Itron is joining thousands of other companies to celebrate National Intern Day and we were nominated for WayUp’s 2022 Top 100 Internship Programs List. The top 100 programs are decided based on a combination of public voting and judging by a panel of experts focused on criteria such as career development, full-time employment rate, company culture, diversity and inclusion, and more.

To celebrate National Intern Day and the work our interns do to create a more resourceful world, we sat down with a few of them to hear firsthand about their experiences as Itron Interns.

Q:  What do you enjoy the most about being an Itron intern?

A: “What I like the most about being an intern at Itron is the people I have met and work alongside who center Itron’s mission of sustainability in everything they do.” – Mia Smith, Application Security Intern

Q: What quality do you think every intern should possess?

A: “Resilience. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or like something is too much, I like to remind myself that this is just an obstacle I need to face to get to the top of the mountain. Embracing challenges, whether through a particular project or task, is necessary for everyone to reach their own personal goals.” – Lauryn Warren, Technical Project Manager Intern

Q: What is one lesson you’ve learned during your time as an intern so far?

A: “If I had to pick one lesson from my three years as an intern at Itron, it would be the importance of communication. It plays a major role in all stages of a project, from inception to implementation, and is key to achieving the desired results.” – MANCA Alistair, Process Intern

Q: What do you find exciting about the field of utilities, technology, energy and sustainability?

A: “I love that the utility space is always innovating and pushing for better ways to deliver energy, resources, and to be more sustainable. Never settling, always striving to be better.” – Halley Zhang, Product Marketing Intern

Q: How do you align with Itron’s mission of creating a more resourceful world?

A: “I align exactly within Itron’s mission of creating a more resourceful world. I am constantly looking for ways for myself and others to be more resourceful and sustainable whether that’s encouraging my mom to recycle or encouraging those around me to not waste their food.” – Brandon Sluss, Security Engineering Intern

Although these are just a few of our amazing interns, we appreciate all of our interns around the globe for their tireless efforts and the extraordinary work they do to create a more resourceful world. As Itron interns continue to grow and become stewards of our world’s most precious resources, the future of energy is looking bright.
